1. What is an LED?
An LED is a light emitting diode, just like all those green and red lights we have seen for years on our electronic equipment.

2. Can LED’s reduce power costs on our lighting?
Yes, you can save a surprising amount of power, up to an 80 % saving.

3. Can we dim LEDs?
The technology is only new and it’s in the early stages, but, yes we can use dimmers on some LEDs quite successfully now.

4. Why do cheap and mail order LEDs’ flicker?
They flicker because the driver is not compatible with the LED. Prolonged use of these transformers will damage the LED and shorten the LED Life.

5. Can we install LEDs’ ourselves or do we need an electrician?
Some LED can be installed by individuals. If you are unsure please ask a Licenced electrician.

6. Do LEDs get hot under general use?
No, a good LED should run at 40 – 50 degrees Celsius.

7. What should I do if my LEDs are running too hot?
Seek professional help. A LED running at high temperature will be damaged and shorten the life of the LED.

8. Can I buy LED light bulbs and install them in my lights at home myself?
Yes there is a wide range of LED bulb available now. Another good thing is that they don’t need to warm up to get bright like compact fluros, they provide almost instant brightness.

9. What should I look for when I am buying LEDs?
The LED with the large cooling fins and large housing are usual better for heat dissipation. Don’t go for small package with high power because the two don’t go together.

10. Why are my LEDs’ dim all of a sudden?
Poor design, poor heat dissipation, LED damage, light depreciation quicker than normal.

11. Are new LED down lights brighter than halogen down lights?
Yes, the new style MCOB LED down light is far brighter, with a lot less wattage.

12. What is the wattage comparison between LEDs and halogen lights?
Normally it is about 10 times. A 60 watt light bulb is about the same as 6 watt LED with similar light output.
